Saudi Arabia Condemns Attack on Presidential Palace in Chad

Saudi Arabia on Saturday condemned the attack that targeted the presidential palace in the Chadian capital, N’Djamena, according to a statement released by the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

The statement expressed the Kingdom’s condemnation of the attack which targeted Chad’s presidential palace and resulted in the death of a soldier and the injury of others.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia confirmed its firm support for any measures that enhances the security and stability of Chad, expressing its rejection of anything that threaten them.

Furthermore, the Kingdom extended its sincere condolences to the victim’s family and the government and people of Chad. It also wished a speedy recovery for those injured in the attack, the statement said.

On Wednesday night, a group of 24 gunmen tried to storm the presidential palace in Chad, killing a soldier and injuring others. The security forces killed 18 of the attackers and wounded 6, according to Reuters. Later, the government said that it had foiled an attempt to destabilize the country and the situation was under control.

The Chadian Foreign Minister, Abderaman Koulamallah, said that the attackers seemed disorganized and intoxicated by alcohol and drugs, and were only armed with knives and machetes. Although rumors spread that the attack was linked to terrorism, Koulamallah said it was “probably not” a terrorist act.
