Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has revealed that the Kingdom’s annual output of palm dates is nearing 2 million tons, Gulf News reported.
In 2023, the total date production exceeded more than 1.9 million tons.
Moreover, the ministry added that the number of palm trees across the kingdom recorded 37.1 million trees, including approximately 31.8 million trees that bore fruit.
In terms of date production, Al Qassim in central Saudi Arabia has secured the first position across the Kingdom’s regions with over 578,000 tons and having 10.7 million trees.
Furthermore, the Riyadh region has secured the second position with 453,000 tons, followed by Medina with nearly 343,000 tons.
Then, the Eastern Province has recached about 258,700, Asir in the south-west with about 61,000, as well as Tabuk in the northwest with 55,600.
Meanwhile, the export of Saudi dates has witnessed a noticeable surge by 14% to hit SR1.4 billion in 2023 to 119 countries, according to the National Centre for Palms and Dates.
As one of the major Saudi products, palm dates has recently been transformed into sweet, nutritious tablets very popular among children.
Interestingly, the tablets are made of ground dates powder with no artificial additives and boast various tastes and colors.
Crucially, Saudi Arabia has recently made bold strides towards transformational industries in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 to cut oil dependency and diversify its economy.
