Saudi Arabia and Maldives Sign MoU on Airstrips, Seaplanes

The Minister of Transport and Logistics, and Chairman of the Board of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, En. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of landing sites and seaplanes between the Kingdom and the Maldives.

This came on the sidelines of a visit by a delegation from the Maldives to the Red Sea region.

The memorandum aims to enhance cooperation in the field of seaplane bases and water aircraft, in order to provide a safe aerial transportation environment according to international best practices. Additionally, it seeks to implement regulations designed to ensure the safety and security of water landing operations and their development.

The memorandum signing is part of the aviation sector’s strategy to build international partnerships and sign new bilateral agreements. Moreover, these agreements will support the strategy’s goals of providing safe, sustainable, and efficient transportation within a regulatory framework aligned with global best practices and Vision 2030 targets.

Red Sea Destination

“Red Sea International” is responsibly developing the “Red Sea Destination” with a focus on sustainability for both people and nature. The company operates “Fly Red Sea,” Saudi Arabia’s first seaplane service, from “Red Sea International Airport.” This airport offers multiple ways to reach the stunning resorts on the destination’s islands, including seaplanes.

In conclusion, the ‘Red Sea International Airport’ has become a major gateway for luxury tourism, contributing to Saudi Arabia’s global leadership in innovation and sustainable development. The airport operates entirely on renewable energy, features a special runway for seaplanes, and includes a private lounge for visitors.
