Russian First Deputy PM Comments on Saudi Arabia Joining BRICS

On Saudi Arabia joining BRICS, the Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said that he was among the Russian delegation when Russia’s Vladimir Putin visited Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Shuvalov affirmed that KSA said that cooperation between the two countries will advance including cordination in BRICS.
“ We did not hear from them that they will put a limit to their decision to join,” added Shuvalov.
Saudi Arabian Trade Minister Majid Al-Qasabi clarified that the Kingdom has not yet officially joined the BRICS group of emerging nations.
During a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Al-Qasabi stated, “Saudi Arabia received an invitation to join BRICS, but we have not yet officially joined.”
Saudi Arabia’s Clarification on BRICS Membership
Saudi Arabia’s position regarding joining BRICS remains unofficial. Trade Minister Majid Al-Qasabi’s statement in Davos clarified this.
He confirmed receiving an invitation to join. However, he stressed that official membership had not been finalized.
This clarification is significant, as it comes amid speculations about Saudi Arabia’s shifting alliances.
The Kingdom’s decision is being closely watched. It, significantly, reflects on its strategic global positioning. Saudi Arabia’s engagement with BRICS would symbolize a diversification in its international relations.
The Kingdom’s potential alignment with BRICS countries also hints at broader economic and diplomatic goals.
This move could reshape traditional geopolitical alliances. It also highlights Saudi Arabia’s pursuit of a more balanced foreign policy approach.
Global Invitation by BRICS and Responses
BRICS extended invitations to several countries, including Saudi Arabia. This move indicated BRICS’s ambition to expand its influence.
Invitations were also sent to the UAE, Egypt, Iran, Argentina, and Ethiopia. Each country’s response is crucial. Argentina has declined the invitation. The expansion reflects BRICS’s growing assertiveness in global affairs.
This strategy aims to create a counterweight to Western economic dominance.
The responses from these nations will shape future global economic dynamics. Accordingly, they will influence the balance of power in international politics.
Saudi Arabia’s contemplation of the offer is particularly noteworthy. It signals a potential shift in global alliances.
