Rubio Thanks Kurdistan Regional Government for Facilitating Iraqi Oil Exports
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke on Thursday with Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, expressing gratitude to the KRG for facilitating the flow of Iraqi oil, including from the Kurdistan region to global markets, according to Reuters.
“The secretary also expressed his gratitude to the Kurdistan Regional Government for enabling oil from Iraq, including from the Iraq Kurdistan Region, to reach global markets,” the State Department said in a statement.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.
Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.
This war has pushed oil prices upward especially with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint that handles approximately a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil and roughly one‑fifth of all liquefied natural gas flows.
Apart from this, the State Department said Rubio “offered his condolences to the families of the Peshmerga killed in an Iranian missile strike on March 24 and wished a swift recovery to those injured.”
On Tuesday, a Peshmerga statement said that a rocket attack on a base north of Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan killed at least six Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and wounded 30 others.
The statement also said that Iran carried out a “treacherous attack,” adding that six Iranian ballistic missiles struck a Peshmerga military headquarters north of Erbil.
