Roblox, the widely used global gaming platform, has blocked over 300,000 games in Saudi Arabia due to concerns over child safety, according to Gulf News.
The move followed an agreement between Roblox and the Kingdom’s General Authority for Media Regulation to censor inappropriate content and protect younger players.
Last week, Saudi Arabia temporarily suspended voice and text chat features for Roblox for Saudi users due to concerns over child protection.
This step came after similar moves taken across other GCC countries, including Oman, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar. These steps were a response to the authorities’ call for protecting minors online.
Moreover, the game has suspended the “Social Gathering Games” category for Saudi users.
Notably, the decision followed talks between Roblox and Saudi regulators to promote moderation tools, expand safe Arabic-language content, and strengthen safeguards against cyberbullying, harmful material, as well as potential online predators.
Through the General Authority for Media Regulation and the Ministry of Media, Saudi Arabia’s media system reaffirmed its commitment to protecting society from the harmful effects of electronic games.
At the same time, Roblox emphasized that the temporary restrictions are part of its broader effort to create a safer online environment for children, while ensuring an engaging gaming experience for young audiences across the region.
The company said that these measures mirror its dedication to “working closely and collaboratively” with Saudi regulators to develop a digital environment that perfectly aligns with local culture.
