Riyadh is set to host the first Saudi Rail Conference and Exhibition on November 20-21. This event, under the patronage of Transport Minister Saleh Al-Jasser, promises to spotlight advancements in rail technology from local and global perspectives.
Al-Jasser noted that the conference aligns with the Kingdom’s rapid transportation sector growth. This development receives strong support from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Railway’s Role in Economic Growth
Al-Jasser emphasized the railway’s essential role in Saudi Arabia’s economic and social development. Rail networks ease passenger and freight movement, boost trade, support tourism, and serve Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Furthermore, the railway network reduces carbon emissions by decreasing daily car and truck trips.
He reiterated the Kingdom’s dedication to advancing its rail infrastructure, improving network efficiency, and enhancing user services.
Saudi Arabia’s Strategic Railway Vision
Ongoing rail projects reflect Saudi Arabia’s vision to establish itself as a global logistics leader. Dr. Bashar AlMalik, CEO of Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), highlighted the conference’s significance in positioning Saudi Arabia as a hub for railway innovation in the Middle East and North Africa.
The event will bring together over 200 local and international speakers, including experts and industry leaders. Attendees will discuss the latest innovations, solutions, and future directions in rail technology.
Platform for Networking and Knowledge Exchange
More than 200 exhibitors will showcase cutting-edge railway solutions, creating a valuable networking platform for industry stakeholders. The conference aligns with SAR’s efforts to meet the National Transport and Logistics Strategy goals under Saudi Vision 2030. This strategy emphasizes attracting and localizing advanced railway technologies.
Expanding Saudi Rail Network
SAR’s rail network now covers 5,500 kilometers, with key lines such as the North Railway, East Railway, and Haramain High-Speed Railway, launched in 2018. The network also includes major urban lines like the Mashaer Train, Riyadh Metro, and the King Abdulaziz International Airport Railway. These lines underscore Saudi Arabia’s commitment to building a world-class, interconnected rail system.
