Reuters: UK PM to Meet Saudi Crown Prince

UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, is set to visit Saudi Arabia. He will meet Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, according to Reuters.

The PM’s spokesperson described Saudi Arabia as a vital regional partner. He told reporters that the Prime Minister would head to Saudi Arabia to meet with Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

Notably, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince, Mohammad bin Salman, during a call with the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, emphasized the importance of reinforcing international and regional efforts to halt military operations in Gaza. He stressed the need for De-Escalation in Gaza.

Crown Prince Urges De-Escalation of Regional Tensions

Prince Mohammad underscored the need to de-escalate tensions to avoid serious implications for regional and global peace and stability. He stressed the importance of preventing an escalation in violence that would destabilize the region.

Support for Palestinian Rights

He recognized the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights and called for the creation of conditions for restoring stability and peace.

Crown Prince Calls for Humanitarian Concerns in Gaza

The Crown Prince highlighted the UN’s role in providing secure humanitarian corridors for medical care and food supplies to civilians under siege in Gaza.

Chronology of Conflict

Since Hamas and other Palestinian factions launched the “Al-Aqsa Storm” on October 7, Gaza has been under Israeli bombardment. Israel’s “Iron Swords” operation was in response, resulting in airstrikes on Gaza, home to over two million Palestinians facing dire living conditions due to an Israeli blockade since 2006.

The Israeli offensive has led to approximately 3,785 deaths and over 12,500 injuries in Gaza. On the Israeli side, over 1,400 people, including 306 officers and soldiers, have been killed. Moreover, Hamas has captured more than 200 Israelis.
