Preview: Al Nassr Seek Unblemished Record Against Al Sadd in Champions League

Saudi powerhouse Al Nassr are poised to face off against Qatari rivals Al Sadd at Al-Awwal Park on Monday in the sixth round of the AFC Champions League Elite, aiming to extend their undefeated streak in the competition.

Al Nassr’s Dominant Form in AFC Competition

Despite a mixed Saudi Pro League start, Al Nassr have excelled in the AFC Champions League, securing four wins and one draw. The Riyadh-based team scored 12 goals and conceded only four in five matches, amassing 13 points. Their latest continental triumph was a commanding 3-1 away victory over Al Gharafa.

Domestically, Al Nassr recently defeated Damac 2-0 at home, with Cristiano Ronaldo netting both goals. However, they trail league leaders Al-Ittihad by eight points in the Saudi Pro League.

Al Sadd’s Steady Campaign

Al Sadd remain one of only four undefeated teams in the competition, including Al Nassr. The Qatari giants have recorded two wins and three draws, placing them fifth in the standings. In their last match, Al Sadd earned an impressive 1-1 draw against Al Hilal.

Historically, Al Nassr hold the edge with three wins in eight meetings, while Al Sadd have won twice. Their last encounter in April 2021 ended in a 2-1 victory for Al Nassr.

Ronaldo’s Absence and Tactical Adjustments

Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly miss the match, as coach Stefano Pioli opts to rest the Portuguese star. Al Nassr aim to capitalize on their form and potentially overtake Al Ahli at the top of the standings.

Al Sadd, buoyed by their recent performances, will look to spoil Al Nassr’s plans and extend their unbeaten run.

Probable Lineups

Al Nassr (4-2-3-1):
Krepski; Al Ghanam, Lajami, Simakan, Al Najdi; Alkhaibari, Otavio; Angelo, Talisca, Ghareeb; Marran.

Al Sadd (3-4-2-1):
