Mawani Creates New Berthing Areas at King Fahd Industrial Port

Enhancing Port's Global Stature

The Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” has taken a significant step by introducing new berthing areas at King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu.

These areas are meticulously designed to provide a range of logistical services. They encompass ship provisioning, fueling, and supplies, alongside crucial ship maintenance facilities.

Enhancing Port’s Global Stature

This initiative is a strategic move to bolster the reputation of Saudi ports on both regional and international levels. It’s a key part of Saudi Arabia’s broader vision to become a leading global logistics center. This move is in line with the country’s Vision 2030 goals, focusing on enhancing connectivity across three continents.

Capacity Increase, Operational Efficiency

These newly created berthing areas are a game-changer for the port’s operational capabilities. They are expected to significantly enhance the port’s performance metrics, particularly in reducing the time ships spend docking. With these additions, the port now boasts 5 advanced, multi-depth berthing areas.

This expansion allows the port to accommodate up to 27 vessels, marking a substantial 440% increase from its earlier capacity of just 5 ships.

Strategic Location, Industrial Support

Situated on the Red Sea coast, close to the Yanbu Industrial City, King Fahd Industrial Port is strategically positioned. This location makes it an ideal hub for export-oriented companies.

Additionally, the port provides comprehensive operational services, meeting the diverse needs of the neighboring industrial complexes.

Recent Ship Arrival

Demonstrating the enhanced capabilities of the port, the recent arrival of the ship “ATHIRI” marked a new milestone. Flying the flag of the MARSHAL ISLANDS, this vessel, measuring 229 meters in length and 32 meters in width, boasts a significant carrying capacity of 73,982 tons. This event underscores the port’s readiness to handle larger vessels and increased traffic.

Future Prospects

Also this expansion is not just about immediate capacity enhancement. It’s a strategic investment in the future of Saudi Arabia’s maritime and logistics sectors. By increasing the port’s capacity, Mawani aims to attract more international trade and shipping activities.

This, in turn, will bolster the economic growth of the region and contribute to the country’s overall development goals.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

Furthermore, in line with global environmental standards, King Fahd Industrial Port’s expansion also reflects a commitment to sustainable development. The port employs modern technologies and practices to minimize environmental impact, ensuring eco-friendly operations.

Boosting Local Economy

Consequently, the expansion is expected to have a positive ripple effect on the local economy. It will create new job opportunities, stimulate economic activities in Yanbu, and support the growth of local businesses.

In addition, this development will also encourage foreign investment in the region, further diversifying the economic landscape.

Saudi Arabia is commited to enhancing its logistics and transport infrastructure. Finally, this move will significantly boost the port’s capacity and efficiency, further positioning the Kingdom as a key player.
