World Coffee Day
A study of nearly 450,000 UK Biobank participants found that drinking two to three cups of coffee per day was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and death, compared to avoiding coffee.
The American newspaper “The Hill”, which published the results of the study, reported that the relationship between decaffeinated, ground coffee, and instant coffee drinkers was found, ground coffee and decaffeinated instant coffee were linked to lower irregular heartbeat.
Study co-author Peter Kistler of the Baker Institute for Heart and Diabetes Research said: “In this large observational study, decaffeinated ground and instant coffee were associated with equivalent reductions in the incidence of cardiovascular disease and death from cardiovascular disease or any other cause.”
A total of 27,809 people died during the study period, but those who drank two to three cups of decaffeinated coffee were 14% less likely to die compared to non-drinkers.
For ground coffee, the risk was reduced by 27%, and instant coffee drinkers had an 11% lower risk.
Benefits and Harms of coffee
Ground coffee was linked to the greatest reduction in cardiovascular disease risk of 20% compared to non-coffee drinkers, however, this risk decreased to 9% for instant coffee and 6% for decaffeinated.

Saudi Coffee
In the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, you can find light coffee in which cardamom pods are placed by some people of the Arabian Peninsula. There is also dark coffee drunk by others, it is usually bitter and sugar is never added to it. It is served in a small cup whose mouth is wider than its base, made of porcelain or pottery.
Coffee is linked to the cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Through a history full of customs and traditions, the values of generosity and hospitality are reflected through the Saudi serving of coffee. The human, aesthetic and artistic presence can be related to coffee. It became a cultural sign that characterizes the Kingdom, whether through its cultivation, or the ways of preparing coffee.
Does Saudi Arabia produce coffee?
There are about 100,000 coffee trees in the Jazan region in southwestern Saudi Arabia, It produces about 500 tons annually. It is a very small number compared to coffee-producing countries such as Colombia, which produces more than 500 thousand tons annually, and even neighboring Yemen, which annually produces about 20 thousand tons.
The activities of the “International Forum for the Sustainability of Saudi Coffee”, organized today, Sunday by the Ministry of Culture in the city of Jazan, concluded from 1 to 2 October, coinciding with the International Coffee Day, aims to highlight Saudi coffee, its manufacture, sustainability, and the global figures in this field.
Through its sessions, the forum concluded some recommendations, the most prominent of which is: the importance of the Kingdom’s accession to the International Coffee Organization. It also aims to exchange experiences and enhance the presence of Saudi coffee internationally, enhance cooperation in the field of research and innovation, enhance national capabilities, organize an annual international forum for Saudi coffee, and discuss achievements, challenges, and aspirations in partnership with the local community.
It is also recommended that the industry of this promising sector should be supported. A day for Saudi coffee can be celebrated by the Saudi community. An electronic magazine for Saudi coffee can be established. An annual award for the best efforts contributing to achieving the aspirations of the coffee sector can be allocated.
