Moroccans Call for End to Gaza War, Reversal of Normalization Deal

Tens of thousands of Moroccans protested on Sunday in the capital Rabat against the unthinkable humanitarian conditions in Gaza due to the Israeli war, according to Arab News.

The protesters called for the removal of the normalization deal with Israel signed in 2010 under the US-led Abraham Accords.

They gathered in the city center, raised Palestinian flags and called for smooth flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, chanting “It’s a disgrace, Gaza is under fire,” “Lift the blockade,” “Morocco, Palestine, one people” and “no to normalization.”

Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War in Gaza in 2023, the Israeli strikes have killed more than 57,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 137,000, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

“Palestinians are being starved and killed before the eyes of the whole world,” said Jamal Behar, one of the demonstrators in Rabat.

In April, more than 1,000 people gathered in the Moroccan port city of Tangier and protested against the arrival of a ship believed to be carrying parts for F-35 fighter jets to Israel.

Port workers in Casablanca, labor unions and pro-Palestinian organizations stated that the Maersk vessel was transporting US weapons to Israel to support the occupation in its genocide in Gaza.
