Saudi Arabia has unveiled a revolutionary emergency medical service model by introducing motorcycle ambulances in Medina to enhance emergency response times and healthcare service quality. Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Medina Region, and Dr. Ahmed bin Ali Al Zahrani, Director of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority’s Medina branch, officially launched the initiative.
Strategic Division of Medina for Improved Response
The new service strategically divides Medina into sectors based on anticipated demand, ensuring medical teams can respond swiftly to emergencies. This approach enhances efficiency, particularly in high-traffic or crowded areas.

Dr. Al Zahrani highlighted that the branch surpassed its 2024 response time targets by 110%, demonstrating the model’s success in meeting the growing demand for emergency medical services.
Motorcycle Ambulances: Agile and Effective
Motorcycle ambulances, designed to navigate traffic efficiently, are integral to the service model. While they reach patients quickly, traditional ambulances remain the preferred method for patient transport. All motorcycle operators are highly trained medical professionals equipped with advanced tools to provide immediate care and coordinate additional support when necessary.
The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) has previously deployed motorcycle ambulances in Makkah during the holy month of Ramadan to enhance emergency response near the Grand Mosque.
This expansion of motorcycle ambulance services aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aiming to create a more sustainable and efficient healthcare system nationwide.
