A man attacked a right-wing demonstration in city of Mannheim, Germany with a knife on Friday, reported Reuters.
The German police said they shot and wounded the attacker on Friday.
There is no information on the identity of the attacker or the motives behind his attack. The police said they could not give details about the demonstrator’s injuries.
Social media footage showed the bearded man, who was wearing sunglasses, while attacking people in the city’s central Marktplatz square with a knife. The footage also showed one person who appeared to be stabbed in the leg and a policeman who tried to intervene appeared to be cut in the neck. Another policeman then shot the attacker.
“A firearm was used against the attacker,” Mannheim police said in a statement
A livestream broadcast from central Mannheim in Germany showed an event organized by Pax Europa Movement during which anti-Islam activist Michael Stuerzenberger was preparing to give a speech.
A colleague of Stuerzenberger told Bild newspaper the activist had been stabbed in the face and leg.
“The attacker must be punished severely,” said Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz on X.
“My thoughts are especially with the seriously injured police officer,” said Germany’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser in a social media post.
