King Saud University Secures U.S. Patent for Innovative Firefighting Robot

King Saud University’s Center for Smart Robotics Research, part of the College of Computer and Information Sciences, has earned a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a groundbreaking firefighting robot designed to protect lives and property.

The patented system detects fires at an early stage using advanced sensors that relay information to a mobile robot equipped with a fire extinguisher, enabling swift and efficient fire suppression. It can also connect to standard fire alarm systems through a smart interface and operates fully autonomously, minimizing risks to human firefighters.
This technology is suitable for a wide range of environments, including industrial sites, commercial complexes, hospitals, data centers, and laboratories—especially in hard-to-reach areas where rapid response is critical.
The achievement highlights King Saud University’s dedication to developing innovative solutions that benefit society and align with Saudi Vision 2030’s emphasis on local innovation. It also showcases the increasing global competitiveness of Saudi universities as hubs for knowledge creation and technological advancement.
