King Salman ordered Saudi authorities on Friday to assist Iranian Hajj pilgrims stranded in the Kingdom as regional tensions flared. He emphasized that these pilgrims must receive all necessary support until it is safe for them to return home. This directive highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of all pilgrims during the Hajj season.
Israeli Airstrikes Trigger Regional Tensions
The King’s order followed early-morning Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear sites, nuclear scientists, and military chiefs. Consequently, Tehran immediately closed the country’s airspace, impacting travel for many and leaving numerous pilgrims unexpectedly unable to depart.
However, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman presented the comprehensive aid plan to the King, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah assuming full responsibility to provide Iranian pilgrims with the essential care and provisions.
The annual Hajj pilgrimage concluded on Monday, marking a significant event for Muslims worldwide. This year, tens of thousands of Iranians participated, contributing to the total of over 1.6 million pilgrims. Authorities described the pilgrimage as a success, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s ability to host large gatherings safely and efficiently.
Escalating Tensions
Later on Friday, Iran retaliated against the Israeli attack by targeting Tel Aviv with missiles. This escalation raises concerns about prolonged and dangerous exchanges of fire in the region. The situation remains tense, and the international community watches closely as events unfold.
