King Khalid University Specializations Excel in Shanghai Ranking
Several scientific and engineering specializations at King Khalid University have achieved advanced positions in the “Shanghai” academic subject ranking for the current year 2023 (Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects).
Results of Shanghai Ranking
The results of the “Shanghai” ranking showed the appearance of 3 academic specializations among the top 200 universities worldwide.
It included the specialization of Energy Science and Engineering at the College of Engineering, ranking 101 globally, and the Mining Engineering specialization at the College of Engineering, ranking 151 globally.
Additionally, the Mathematics specialization at the College of Science achieved the 151st position globally.
Other Specializations’ Rankings
The College of Engineering’s Mechanical Engineering program ranked 201st globally. Its Machinery Science and Technology, along with Material Science and Engineering, both ranked 301st.
The College of Science’s Agricultural Sciences and Chemistry specializations achieved 201st and 401st positions, respectively. The College of Pharmacy’s Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences specialization also ranked 301st globally.
Significance of Shanghai Global Ranking
Firstly, it’s noteworthy that the Shanghai Global Ranking is considered one of the strongest international rankings. Secondly, it operates according to five specific criteria, with the relative weight of these criteria varying.
Thirdly, the criteria depend on the publication of research in scientifically impactful journals.
This includes, firstly, the number of research papers published in top-quartile fields in the Web of Science. Additionally, the extent of citation of these research papers.
Secondly, the degree of international collaboration in global scientific publishing.
Finally, the number of faculty members who have received significant academic awards in the same specialization are also considered.
