Japan’s FM Visits Riyadh to Mark 70 Years of Diplomatic Ties

Japan’s Foreign Minister, Takeshi Iwaya, is set to arrive in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday to further strengthen bilateral relations and promote closer cooperation for advancing international peace and stability.

In an opinion peace for Arab News, Iwaya hailed the leadership of the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, acknowledging the remarkable accomplishments achieved under Vision 2030. He also stressed Japan’s support to this transformative plan.

The Japanese Foreign Minister emphasized the significance of his visit to Riyadh being his first visit to the Middle East as foreign minister of Japan. The visit also coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Saudi-Japanese diplomatic ties, celebrated throughout 2025.

Moreover, Iwaya said that Saudi Arabia and Japan are strategic partners, highlighting their deepening cooperation across various fields, including energy, education, entertainment, and emerging technologies.

Iwaya also praised Saudi Arabia’s active role in promoting peace, security and stability across the Middle East and the world. This includes taking the initiative to host an international conference for advancing a two-state solution to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict; acting as a mediator to end the conflict and humanitarian crisis in Sudan; and hosting talks to settle the crisis in Ukraine.

In the light of this, Japan’s Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s unwavering support for the two-state solution, noting that Japan will continue to make every diplomatic effort for de-escalation, stabilization and achieving a long-term peace. He also pointed out that Saudi Arabia’s central role in promoting peace and stability makes coordination with Riyadh essential.
