Gulf Cinema Festival Wraps Up Honoring Winners

On final day of fourth Gulf Cinema Festival in Riyadh, winners were given awards. The festival was attended by prominent artistic and cinematic figures, according to Saudi Press Agency.

The jury, led by Ibrahim Al-Hasawi from Saudi Arabia and including members from Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Oman, nominated the winners. Among them, ‘Hajjan,’ a Saudi coming-of-age drama starring Omar Al-Atawi and Abdulmohsen Alnemr, secured the Best Feature Film award.

It also picked up the best photography award, with Jerry Fassbender recognized for his work on the film. Al-Atawi won the best actor award for his role.

The best actress award went to Bahraini Maryam Zeman for her part in the movie “My Word.”

The highly anticipated ‘Clouds,’ directed by Muzna Almusafer, clinched the Best Short Film award. The film portrays the struggle of a widowed war veteran in southern Oman as he navigates personal values against societal norms.

The award for best documentary film went to Mansoor Al-Dhaheri’s climate change expose “Swimming 62.

Ziad Al-Hussein took home two awards, including one for best director for his film “Shiabni Hani.

Khaled Al-Kammar won Best Original Soundtrack for ‘Hawjan,’ a film blending modernity with ancient Arab jinn mythology, which premiered at last year’s Red Sea Festival.

The Gulf Cinema Festival, supported by Saudi Culture Minister Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, also chairman of the Film Commission, was a significant event.

Abdullah Al-Qahtani, CEO of the commission, said in a speech during the ceremony that the festival embodied a commitment to supporting the film sector in the region and building bridges for cinematic cooperation between the Gulf countries.

He expressed gratitude to Prince Badr for sponsoring and supporting the festival and Saudi Arabia’s film industry, along with the general secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The five-day festival witnessed the screening of 29 different films by prominent Gulf producers, distributed across several categories. It included feature fiction, short fiction, and documentary, in addition to various and integrated dialogue seminars and training workshops that combined various aspects of creative production and cinematic art. The whole event took place under the lights of experience and in front of speakers’ platforms.
