The Saudi Ministry of Health has begun providing the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine to all those aged 60 years or over in Saudi Arabia. This was announced by the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Preventive Health and Infectious Diseases Consultant in the Ministry, Dr. Abdullah Asiri.
The Ministry also confirmed that the respiratory syncytial virus is an important cause of respiratory infections, and significantly increases the incidence of heart attacks.
At the same time, Asiri, called for the necessity of communicating with the family doctor through the “My Health” application to obtain the vaccine that is now available in the country.
According to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Saudi Arabia has become the fifth country to include a special vaccine for the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for those aged sixty and over. In return, the Ministry will also approve, according to him, a “new vaccine” designed to protect newborns in the first six months of their lives.
These accumulated health steps that Saudi Arabia has taken the initiative to take reinforce the extension of the lives of its citizens. The Kingdom will keep exerting efforts until it exceeds the target it set to reach the average lifespan of citizens of 80 years in the year of achieving Vision 2030.
