FAO chooses Saudi Arabia as IYAFA 2022 main sponsor
According to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization “FAO” has chosen Saudi Arabia to be the principal sponsor of the International Year of Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA) 2022.
Carolina Carranza, a representative of the President of the International Steering Committee for the International Year of Fisheries, said this during a speech at the Ministry’s International Conference and Exhibition on Fisheries.
The International Year’s goals, according to the Ministry, are to boost the fisheries sector’s growth, strengthen the sector’s role in ensuring food security, provide new job opportunities for youngsters, and improve the quality of life in rural areas.
It also aspires to boost production, which is now at 40%, meet global seafood demand, and manage aquaculture’s natural resources.
The Kingdom was recently voted to lead the Regional Commission for Fisheries and Aquaculture, according to reports.
It was also chosen as a member of the Higher International Committee for Fisheries and Aquaculture in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the development of the fisheries sector.
