Regional Distribution of Elders in Saudi Arabia

Mecca region has the highest number of elders in Saudi Arabia, exceeding 250,000. Riyadh follows with around 200,000 seniors. In the third place comes Al-Sharkiyyah with 100 thousand seniors.

Bridging Generational Gaps

Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council Maimoonah Al Khalil emphasized initiatives to connect youth with seniors, reducing cultural and knowledge gap between them.

Moreover, Al Khalil hinted that the Family Affairs Council is preparing a national divorce index study in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the General Authority for Statistics.

Commenting on the absence of committees for men’s affairs, compared to the availability of committees for women, children and elders, Al Khalil highlighted the significance of the existing committees.

These committees exert more effort to tackle the issues of these three groups and suggest projects for them. However, Vision 2030 emphasizes both men and women, with a focus on the promising Saudi youth of both genders.

The council focuses on enhancing the role and the position of the family. It launched various programs and initiatives which are included in the National Family Strategy.

One of these was a guidebook to help families discover their children’s skills. It also aimed to help families detect any challenges in the physical, mental or emotional growth of he children.
