Experts Showcase Efforts to Implement CITES at Taibah University
Forty-five specialists from nine local entities and international experts are showcasing the most prominent national efforts and measures taken to implement the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The experts participated in the national training workshop on combating illegal wildlife trade currently held at Taibah University in Medina.
Taibah University explained that the workshop is held to complete and follow up on the efforts implemented to apply CITES.
Workshop Objectives
The workshop aims to build national capacities in monitoring and regulating wildlife trade according to CITES.
It also intends to equip the participants with the necessary skills to implement the agreement.
Moreover, its highlight the national efforts made by various relevant entities to protect wildlife and its components. In addition, it focuses on efforts to conserve animal and plant species and protect them from threats and their survival in their natural habitats.
Furthermore, the workshop intends to train participants on how to handle cases of smuggling and illegal wildlife trade. It aims to teach them how to deal with live creatures based on local legislations related to wildlife and the CITES agreement
The university is organizing the workshop in cooperation with the National Center for Wildlife (NCW) International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), at the university’s conference hall.
King Salman Royal Reserve
The King Salman Royal Reserve has recently achieved a significant milestone. Scouts from the reserve have completed a comprehensive and intensive wildlife training program. The program is designed to enhance their skills in wildlife management and conservation. Therefore, this achievement underscores the reserve’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
