Energy Minister Highlights Saudi Leadership in Clean Energy during Brazil’s G20 Meetings

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman has underscored the Kingdom’s pioneering role in carbon technologies during the G20 meetings in Brazil.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Minister has participated in the 7th Energy Transitions Working Group, the 15th Clean Energy Ministerial, and the 9th Mission Innovation Ministerial meetings.

Held on 3-4 October in Foz do Iguaçu, the meetings tackled the policies of sustainable energy transition, the just energy transition, and ways to address climate change.

These meetings are part of the G20’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation, achieve environmental sustainability and support innovations in clean energy.

Prince Abdulaziz underscored the significance of having a balance between economic growth, energy security, and climate change mitigation.

He stated the Kingdom’s ambitious goal to become a global leader in circular carbon economy technologies and clean energy production and export.

The Minister also reviewed the Kingdom’s efforts to increase its renewable energy capacity to 44 gigawatts by the end of 2024.

Concurrently, the Kingdom is establishing a hydrogen production center in Ras Al-Khair Industrial City and launching a large-scale carbon capture and storage project with an annual capacity of 9 million tons by 2027.
