CRIK Contributes to Translating Saudi Works into Chinese
The Chinese researcher, Dr. Li Shijun, stated that the Center for Research, Knowledge, and Intercommunication (CRIK) has contributed to translating Saudi works into Chinese language.
Li Shijun, from the Shanghai University of International Studies, conducted a study on the joint publishing program between CRIK and Chinese publishing institutions.
The study examined the dissemination and sales of translated works. Moreover, it proposed suggestions to enhance translation efforts and effectively promote these works.
The study offered insights into how CRIK and Chinese cultural and scientific institutions promote translated works through diverse channels in both countries, aiming at specific readerships.
Translated Books Recommended by CRIK
According to Li Shijun, the total number of recommended Saudi books by the Chinese side reached 14 by January 2024.
Among these were some books published by the Chinese Intercontinental Press such as:
- “Al-Ahsa Street” by Dr. Badriya Al-Bashir
- “Al-Usfuriyah” by Dr. Ghazi Al-Gosaibi
- “An Afternoon Nap” by the writer Abdulaziz Al-Saqabi
- “Cities Eat Grass” by the novelist Abdo Khal.
Additionally, the Beijing Normal University Press for Teachers Preparation published several books including:
- “The Price of Sacrifice” by the author Hamed Al Dimnahouri
- “A Hole in the Garb of the Night” by the novelist Ibrahim Al Nasser Al Humaidan
- ” Tomorrow I Forget” by Dr. Amal Muhammad Shata
Best-Selling Saudi Books in Chinese Translation
The researcher pointed out that the three best-selling Saudi books translated into Chinese are:
- “Al-Usfuriyah”
- “Sailing to Dimensions”
- “The Price of Sacrifice”
Cooperation between Intercontinental Press, CRIK
The Intercontinental Press collaborated with CRIK during the Riyadh International Book Fair in 2022. The cooperation aimed to showcase the publications since the project’s inception.
Notably, both countries signed an executive program for cooperation in literature, publishing, and translation during the Riyadh International Book Fair in 2023. As a result, the translation and publishing project between Saudi Arabia and China is growing and expanding.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that further translations will be finished to present the real picture of KSA. Additionally, the translation also seeks to enhance its cultural influence on Chinese readers through notable works reflecting Saudi society.
