COP-28: Commonwealth Pavilion Spotlights Young Leaders’ Role in Climate Action
In an inspiring session at COP-28 in Dubai, the Commonwealth Pavilion became a hub of dynamic discussions, hosting the event “Green Champions: Young Advocates Across the Commonwealth.” This marked a significant moment in the Commonwealth’s Year of Youth 2023, spotlighting the vital role of young leaders in driving climate change solutions.
Secretary General Rt Hon Patricia Scotland QC led the event. She expressed gratitude to the participating youth leaders. Scotland praised the Commonwealth’s legacy in unity and opportunity. She also reinforced its role as a nurturing global family. The Commonwealth is dedicated to tackling key challenges.
Commitment to Youth and Climate Action
Amidst the 1.8 billion young people in the Commonwealth, Secretary General Scotland reiterated the organization’s commitment to aiding member states in the climate crisis. The event not only marked the culmination of activities at the Pavilion but also reinforced the central role of youth in climate initiatives.
Secretary General Scotland highlighted the loss and damage fund. She acknowledged its limitations against climate change impacts. Yet, she presented it as a key step towards recovery. Mr. Qaiser Nawab, a global climate youth leader from Pakistan, gave an impactful speech. He thanked Secretary General Scotland for attending despite health issues. Nawab also reflected on his lengthy association with the Commonwealth. He discussed its role in promoting pride, unity, and learning opportunities. Nawab also highlighted the Commonwealth’s impact on providing global exposure.
Mr. Sushil Ram praised Mr. Nawab for organizing the event. He celebrated the achievements of youth leaders. Their initiatives have made substantial impacts in communities.
Over 50 Global Climate Fellow Youth Leaders participated actively. They came from the Commonwealth and beyond. These leaders shared their projects, ideas, and experiences.
The discussion focused on the loss and damage fund. This, basically, highlighted the youth community’s commitment and innovation.
The event ended with a group photo of families. It showed the young leaders’ hopeful expressions. This also symbolized the Commonwealth’s strong commitment to developing future leaders focused on climate action.
