China expressed “deep concern” on Friday regarding the current situation in the besieged Palestinian enclave of Gaza. The Chinese government has urged Israel to avoid further escalation following a series of deadly airstrikes that claimed fifteen Palestinian lives.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning addressed reporters in Beijing to clarify the nation’s official stance on the conflict. “We oppose any act that harms civilians and violates international law,” Mao stated during the press conference.
Furthermore, China emphasized the urgent need for stability and the protection of non-combatants in the region. Mao noted that the international community expects a swift resolution to the growing humanitarian crisis.
“China hopes the ceasefire agreement will be implemented in Gaza, humanitarian crisis will be eased and stability will be restored as soon as possible,” Mao said. She delivered these remarks in response to Israeli airstrikes that killed fifteen Palestinians just one day earlier.
A Call for Restraint
The Foreign Ministry specifically directed its message toward Israeli leadership to prevent a wider conflagration. Urging Israel “in particular,” Mao said relevant parties should “exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.”
The situation remains dire as local news agencies report continuous strikes across the Gaza Strip. At least 15 Palestinians, including five children, have died since Thursday morning despite existing ceasefire agreements. Consequently, the Palestinian official news agency Wafa reported that these strikes occurred in areas previously considered safe.
Palestinian health officials confirmed that Israeli forces targeted tents housing displaced people, private homes, and a local school, which have intensified the suffering of the local population who already face extreme resource shortages.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that Israeli violations continue even though a ceasefire technically came into effect on 10 October, with officials claiming these breaches resulted in 425 deaths and 1,206 injuries since the agreement began. As a result, China remains steadfast in its call for all parties to respect international legal standards immediately.
