At Least 100 Dead After Heavy Rain in India, Nepal

Heavy rains across India and Nepal have killed more than 100 people in the past three days, according to Reuters.

The violent thunderstorms and lightning strikes have caused chaos and severe damage, official and local media reported.

Approximately 64 people have lost their souls since Wednesday in India’s eastern state of Bihar due to rain-related incidents. Such incidents involve lightning, wall collapses, and falling trees, according to the state Disaster Management Department.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of more than 50 people… from storm, rain, lightning, tree and wall collapse in Bihar,” Former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, posted on X.

As for Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, media unveiled the death of more than 20 people.

The devastation also stretched into Nepal with heavy rain killing at least eight people, according to National Disaster Authority officials.

Currently, weather experts forecast heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds over central and eastern India till Saturday.
