Aramco Produces First Trapped Gas in Ghawar
Saudi Aramco said that it had succeeded in producing the first unconventional trapped gas from its business area south of Ghawar. The project was completed two months ahead of schedule.
The company stated today that this achievement supports the company’s strategy to increase gas production by 2030 by more than half of 2021 production.
The processing capacity of the facilities in South Ghawar amounts to 300 million standard cubic feet per day of raw gas. This is in addition to 38 thousand barrels per day of condensate processing capacity.
In response to the increasing demand for gas, the company will continue its efforts to more than double the total processing capacity. It aims to reach the strategic goal for South Ghawar. The goal is to provide about 750 million standard cubic feet per day of raw gas in the near future.
Nasser Al-Naimi’s Comments
“The first production of unconventional trapped gas from South Ghawar is a milestone that demonstrates progress to expand gas production. We believe this will play a role in meeting the Kingdom’s needs of low emissions energy. The ability to start production two months ahead of schedule, and under budget, is a testament to our employees’ dedication to continue strengthening our upstream business,” said Nasser Al-Naimi, President of Exploration and Production at Saudi Aramco.
The success of producing trapped gas from South Ghawar represents the second unconventional gas operation for Saudi Aramco. Work is underway simultaneously in the giant Jafurah unconventional gas field. It is the largest liquids-rich shale gas field in the Middle East.
