Al Nakheel Kicks off as Part Riyadh Green Project
As part of the Riyadh Green Project, one of the key neighborhoods to benefit from this initiative is Al Nakheel. The project plays a significant part in achieving the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative and Saudi Vision 2030.
The Greening of Al Nakheel: A Milestone in Riyadh’s Transformation
Al Nakheel marks the seventh residential neighborhood in Riyadh to undergo the greening process, following the successful transformation of Al Aziziyah, Al Naseem, Al Jazeera, Al Araija, Qurtuba, and Al Ghadir. The Green Riyadh program, spearheaded by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, aims to enhance the urban environment of Riyadh by greening residential neighborhoods and increasing the city’s green coverage.
Moreover, the greening process in Al Nakheel commenced on October 5th, with the ambitious goal of planting 50,000 trees and shrubs. This transformation encompasses the creation of 17 neighborhood parks, four schools, 30 mosques, and 14 parking areas. Additionally, 52 kilometers of streets and corridors will be enhanced to provide a more vibrant and eco-friendly environment for the residents of Al Nakheel.
Planting Trees for a Greener Riyadh
The primary goal of the Green Riyadh program is to plant over 7.5 million trees throughout the city of Riyadh. This ambitious initiative will significantly increase the green coverage of the city to 9.1%, providing a more aesthetically pleasing and healthier environment for its residents. Furthermore, the program aims to boost the per capita share of green spaces from 1.7m² to an impressive 28m², a sixteen-fold increase from the current level.
The greening of residential neighborhoods is a key aspect of the Green Riyadh program. By transforming Al Nakheel and other neighborhoods, the program aims to create a more sustainable and livable urban environment. The addition of parks, schools, mosques, and enhanced streets and corridors not only beautifies the neighborhoods but also promotes a sense of community and well-being among the residents.
Moreover, the Green Riyadh program is one of the four megaprojects in Riyadh, initiated to transform the city into a sustainable and green metropolis. It aligns with the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative and Saudi Vision 2030, which aim to create a more environmentally conscious and sustainable future for the Kingdom.
Contributing to the Saudi Green Initiative and Saudi Vision 2030
The Saudi Green Initiative and Saudi Vision 2030 prioritize environmental sustainability and the preservation of natural resources. The Green Riyadh program aligns perfectly with these goals, as it contributes to the broader vision of planting 10 billion trees within the Kingdom in the coming decades. By actively participating in this initiative, Riyadh is setting an example for other cities in Saudi Arabia and around the world.
