The National Center for Environmental Compliance has named Abha as the city with the purest air in Saudi Arabia for 2024, according to Saudi Press Agency.
This step represents a remarkable milestone and an environmental achievement that strengthens the city’s tourism and economic appeal.
During the assessment process, the center utilizes air quality monitoring stations strategically located throughout the Kingdom. These stations automatically transfer real-time data to a central monitoring room in Jeddah. Consequently, the data undergoes processing and analysis stages. Then, they create daily, monthly, and annual reports determining the level of air quality in the Kingdom’s cities and regions.
Crucially, the reports are compatible with established standards from the US Environmental Protection Agency and the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
According to 2024 data, Abha recorded the lowest levels of air pollutants. Therefore, its air was the cleanest among the Kingdom’s cities last year.
As one of the most significant cities in the Kingdom, Abha features natural and heritage assets and promising investment opportunities.
Currently, air quality is a top priority for Saudi Arabia due to its strong connection to human health and quality of life.
Therefore, the Kingdom has been adopting strict policies to protect the environment and reduce pollution.
Through its active participation in international environmental initiatives, the Kingdom seeks to develop an environmentally friendly infrastructure to promote air quality and achieve sustainable development.
