Interestingly, the billion-dollar showcase of pharaonic grandeur has brought together 79 international delegations, including 39 heads of state and government.

“Here, where civilization took its first steps, and the world witnessed the birth of art, thought, and faith,” Al-Sisi added.

Spanning across nearly half a million square meters, the GEM features stunning performances including a debut of a specially composed orchestral piece by acclaimed Egyptian composer Hesham Nazih, as well as a pharaonic-themed dance performance in which several Egyptian celebrities took the stage in pharaonic garb.

Egypt has delayed the opening five times since 2020 due to several crises such as the Covid pandemic and the recent wars in the region.

The Egyptian government has installed large screens all over Cairo, providing the public with an opportunity to view the ceremony.

President El-Sisi said in his speech that the museum features over 100,000 artefacts, making it the world’s largest collection dedicated to a single civilization.
