The US Senator, Bernie Sanders, has called on the US to end its military aid to the Israeli government in its “barbaric war” against the Palestinian people.
“The US must end our complicity in these atrocities. We cannot be part of this any longer,” he said.
Bernie Sanders, an American politician and activist, is the senior US senator from Vermont. He is the longest-serving independent in US congressional history and the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP).
In a video on his official YouTube channel, the US Senator addressed Israel’s atrocities in Gaza, slamming the US for supporting the war.
Sanders highlighted the crimes committed by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in Gaza, killing more than 50,000 people, wounding over 112,000, and destroying the enclave’s entire infrastructure.
He also said that over the past two weeks, since Israel broke the ceasefire agreement with Hamas, it has killed 320 children and wounded over 600 others. Moreover, Sanders pointed to the total blockade imposed by Netanyahu’s government on Gaza, which prevented humanitarian aid from entering the Strip for an entire month.
The US Senator described Israel’s actions as “barbaric,” adding that he would push resolutions in the Senate to block almost $9 billion arms sales to Israel. Sanders stressed his opposition to former US President Joe Biden’s “blank check military aid” to Israel and to President Donald Trump’s actions.
In the light of this, Sanders voiced strong criticism of Trump’s proposal to displace Gaza’s 2.2 million people to transform the Strip into a “Riviera, some billionaires’ playground.” The US Senator said that this amounts to “ethnic cleansing,” which is a war crime.
