Record Crowds at Grand Mosque: Over 3M Worshipers During Ramadan’s Peak

More than 3 million worshippers gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on the 22nd day and the night of the 23rd of Ramadan. The spiritual momentum of the final ten nights of the holy month continues to build, creating a vibrant atmosphere of devotion.

Minister of Hajj and Umrah Tawfiq Al-Rabiah revealed that nearly 592,100 worshippers performed Fajr prayer on the 22nd day. This was followed by 518,000 for Dhuhr, 547,700 for Asr, 710,500 for Maghrib, and 732,700 for Isha and Taraweeh prayers.

The total number of Umrah pilgrims entering the mosque through its main gates reached 662,500. According to the ministry’s data, King Abdulaziz Gate recorded the highest number of entrants with 235,800 pilgrims. Bab Al-Salam welcomed 32,300 pilgrims, while Bab Al-Hudaybiyah saw 69,600. Another 111,400 pilgrims entered through Bab Al-Umrah, and 172,700 passed through King Fahd Gate.

Taraweeh Prayers Attract Millions

The Taraweeh prayers in Makkah attract millions of worshippers. The Grand Mosque follows the traditional format of 20 Rakats, led by esteemed Imams. Worshippers stand in congregation, listening to the recitation of the Holy Quran by world-renowned Qaris. The Taraweeh prayers begin after Isha Salah, expected around 8:00 PM local time in Saudi Arabia.

The last ten nights of Ramadan hold immense spiritual significance. Worshippers keenly follow the renowned Imams leading these prayers. The atmosphere in Makkah offers peace and devotion, as believers immerse themselves in prayers and supplications.

Preparations for Large Crowds

Authorities have highlighted an app enabling pilgrims to instantly learn about the crowding level in the revered site. The platform allows booking permits and appointments for performing the Umrah and visiting the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.
