RGA Advances Road Safety with Innovative Technologies

The Roads General Authority (RGA) is spearheading efforts to enhance road safety and efficiency through its “Distinct and Safe Roads” initiative, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to modernize infrastructure and uphold global standards in road maintenance and safety.

At the heart of the campaign is the deployment of the world’s largest survey and evaluation fleet, powered by artificial intelligence and advanced tools. These technologies enable the detection of road surface damage, measurement of skid resistance, analysis of road layer deviations, and assessment of roughness and thickness.
Additionally, the system supports informed decision-making for timely maintenance, ultimately improving road quality.
A standout innovation in the initiative is the introduction of a ground paint measuring device, the first of its kind in the Middle East. Moreover, the device can accurately locate and measure points at speeds of up to 80 km/h. It evaluates the reflectivity of road markings, creating a detailed database that streamlines maintenance operations and reduces costs.
The RGA has incorporated drone technology to inspect and assess roads, particularly in hard-to-reach areas such as culverts and around obstacles. Drones also perform thermal scans to monitor cleanliness and automate inspection processes, further enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of road maintenance efforts.
Finally, the RGA continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating safer, more reliable road networks across the Kingdom.
