Revolutionizing Defense Operations: Saudi Arabia Unveils AI-Powered Naval Vessel
Saudi Arabia has introduced its first unmanned naval military vessel, powered by artificial intelligence, showcasing a transformative step in defense modernization. This innovative milestone aligns with the Vision 2030 goals, emphasizing the Kingdom’s dedication to diversifying its economy and advancing technology.
A New Era in Naval Innovation
The vessel, developed by SAMI in partnership with the Royal Saudi Naval Forces, highlights cutting-edge naval technology and innovation. It uses remote-control systems and onboard defense platforms, enabling seamless operation and reducing risks in dangerous environments.
Wael Al-Sarhan, SAMI’s Chief Communications and Support Services Officer, stated, “Today, I want to share our success story.” He highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the Saudi Military Industries Company (SAMI) and the Royal Saudi Naval Forces.
He emphasized the integration of AI to optimize naval operations, enabling real-time data analysis and decision-making for enhanced operational efficiency.

“Earlier this year, during the defense exhibition, we announced the launch of the first vessel converted from a manned to an unmanned vessel. This transformation was achieved using innovative technologies developed by SAMI, which rely on a remote-control platform to operate the vessel,” Al-Sarhan explained.
He added, “Today, we are taking this success further by introducing a new version of this service. This iteration features a remote-control system and integrated defense systems onboard the vessel. These systems allow remote operation, the guidance of the vessel, and control of multiple integrated defense platforms simultaneously.”
Al-Sarhan concluded, “Through this initiative, we present a new dimension of naval operations by deploying AI-powered command platforms.” He emphasized that these platforms, compatible with unmanned and manned naval systems, utilize AI to improve system evaluation and functionality.
