Manama to Host Arab Summit Tomorrow in Presence of Kings, Arab Presidents

The work of the 33rd regular session of the Arab League Council at the summit level will begin tomorrow in Manama, headed by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, with the participation of Arab leaders or their representatives and the Secretary-General of the Arab League.

The summit will cover various political, development, security, economic, social, cultural, and media issues outlined in the draft agenda finalized by Arab foreign ministers. It will also involve approving resolutions and the final declaration -Bahrain Declaration- by Arab leaders.

The summit will discuss a number of political, development, security, economic, social, cultural and media issues, which are included in a draft agenda prepared by the Arab foreign ministers in its final form in light of the preparatory meetings. It will also adopt draft resolutions for the items included in the draft agenda and the draft final declaration -Bahrain Declaration- which will be issued by Arab leaders.

The draft agenda includes 23 items that address various issues related to joint Arab action in the political, economic, social, cultural, media, security, and Arab cooperation fields with international and regional groupings. It will include the report of the presidency of the thirty-second summit on the activity of the body to follow up on the implementation of decisions and commitments, and the report of the Secretary-General of the Arab League on the process of Arab action subscriber.

The draft agenda will include an item on the Palestinian issue and the Arab-Israeli conflict, covering various topics such as political developments, activating the Arab Peace Initiative, Israeli actions in Jerusalem, supporting Palestine’s budget, and Palestinian resilience.

Draft Summit Agenda

The draft summit agenda will cover Arab affairs and national security, addressing solidarity with Lebanon, developments in Syria, support for peace and development in Sudan, Libya, and Yemen, assistance for Somalia and the United Comoros, as well as resolving the Djibouti-Eritrean border dispute peacefully.

The draft agenda will also discuss an item on international political affairs and includes several topics, including the second Arab-Chinese summit hosted by Beijing; Establishing a partnership forum between the League of Arab States and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The draft summit agenda will review the file of economic, social, media and legal affairs and will include several topics, including the emergency response plan to deal with the economic and social repercussions of the Israeli aggression against the State of Palestine.

The draft summit agenda will also review Saudi proposals on celebrating the Day of the Martyr of Health. Saudi Arabia will share its successful health sector experiences during the summit. The UAE suggests establishing the Western Observatory for Women’s Economic Empowerment to monitor Arab engagement with climate change. There are updates to the Arab Human Rights Strategy and a joint Arab strategy to fight terrorism.

Saudi Arabia has put forward an item under new work on developing and modernizing the League of Arab States and reforming its working mechanisms.
