Acacia Tortilis Trees in KSA Stand Tall in Al Wajh Governorate

Acacia Tortilis trees in KSA, also known as Samr trees, stand tall in three valleys Al Wajh Governorate, reported Saudi Press Agency.

Besides their environmental importance, the Acacia tortilis are a rich source for natural pastures and flower nectar.

It is a thorn tree that thrives around valleys. The 7-meter-tall tree is known for its tolerance to long periods of drought.

Importance of Acacia Tortilis

Bees use these trees to produce the finest types of honey, known as Talh honey. According to the head of the Green Tabuk Association, the Acacia tortilis is one of the most important types of Talh trees in the biodiversity system.

In the past, humans used its branches for building house roofs. Moreover, its wood is a good, low-smoke fuel.

The leaves and fruits of the Acacia tortilis serve as a good meal for camels and sheep.

Endangered Acacia Tortilis

Unfortunately, these trees are threatened with extinction due to natural factors such as torrential floods and strong winds.

The head of the Green Tabuk Association highlighted the role of the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development in preserving these trees and Talh trees in general.

He praised the Center’s significant cooperation with various related sectors to develop such plants, which are an integral part of the country’s natural environment.

Fighting Desertification

In a groundbreaking environmental initiative, Taif, a city known for its natural beauty, has embarked on an ambitious journey to plant 150,000 trees according to Saudi Press Agency. This significant move aims to fight the growing challenge of desertification, a threat that poses serious environmental risks. In Taif, the encroaching desert has threatened local ecosystems and jeopardized agricultural productivity. This initiative of planting Taif trees also aims to curb this trend and restore ecological balance.

The Taif Trees Project: A Hopeful Horizon

Moreover, the Taif Trees project, spearheaded by a collaboration of local government and environmental organizations, focuses on the strategic planting of 150,000 trees across the region. These trees are carefully selected for their drought resistance and suitability to the local climate, ensuring their survival and growth in arid conditions.
