French President Emmanuel Macron is set to welcome Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman on Sunday for a two-day official visit, marking another significant milestone in the strong relationship between Saudi Arabia and France.
The visit comes months after Macron traveled to Saudi Arabia in December 2024, highlighting the continued momentum behind high-level engagement between the two countries.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
According to the Élysée Palace, the visit stands as a living testament to the “vitality” of dialogue between Saudi Arabia and France, while offering a fresh opportunity to further strengthen their strategic partnership.
As part of these efforts, Macron and the Crown Prince will convene the Franco-Saudi Strategic Partnership Council for the first time, marking an important leap toward boosting the institutional framework of bilateral cooperation.
The talks will focus on major economic and strategic priorities shaping the Saudi-French partnership, as well as an exchange of views on pressing regional developments.
Remarkably, the talks come as France and its Gulf partners place special importance on close coordination to support peace and stability across the Near and Middle East.
How Is Sport Strengthening Saudi-French Ties?
Adding a sporting dimension to the visit, the two leaders are expected to attend the Esports World Cup’s closing ceremony on Sunday.
The event is being held in Paris for the first time outside Saudi Arabia since its launch.
More boldly, the tournament’s arrival in Paris also reflects France’s growing appeal on the international sporting stage.
In this context, the Élysée Palace shined a spotlight on the success of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a striking example of the country’s ability to host major global sporting events.
Remarkably, the collaboration also reflects the two countries’ shared ambition to leverage sport and culture as vital platforms for deepening ties between Saudi Arabia and France.
A Vision 2030 Push
According to an official statement from the Royal Court, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman departed on August 21, 2026, for the visit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
The statement noted that the visit is taking place under the directives of King Salman, reflecting the Kingdom’s unified leadership and diplomatic approach.
More tellingly, the state visit aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 by creating exclusive opportunities for foreign investment, knowledge exchange, and technological cooperation.
By actively engaging with international diplomacy, the Crown Prince further advances the Kingdom’s ambition to strengthen its position as a global hub for innovation and prosperity.
