Saudi Arabia Secures WOAH Accreditation for Rabies Control Program

Saudi Arabia’s rabies control program has secured official approval from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The approval came after the Kingdom successfully met all technical requirements and international benchmarks governing disease-control standards.

Saudi Arabia has received the certificate during the 93rd General Session of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), that took place in Paris with the participation of member states and international organizations concerned with animal health.

Interestingly, WOAH’s endorsement followed a comprehensive assessment of the technical program developed by the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa Center).

Based on an integrated and coordinated framework, the program seeks to prevent and control dog-mediated rabies while ensuring full compliance with WOAH’s international standards and technical requirements.

This recognition stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to boost its animal health system, adopt global best practices for managing zoonotic diseases, and support public health protections against rabies.
