Diriyah Gate Marks International Museum Day at At-Turaif

Diriyah Gate Development Authority concluded its celebration of International Museum Day yesterday with a wide range of cultural programs and interactive activities designed to transform the museums of the At-Turaif Historical District into an engaging destination for visitors and heritage enthusiasts.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010, At-Turaif is one of the largest mudbrick heritage districts in the world. The celebrations featured several immersive experiences, including the “Tours and Stories from Diriyah’s Palaces” program, which highlighted the historical events and stories connected to the palaces that played a key role in the establishment of the First Saudi State.

The activities also included an “Architectural Sketching” program, where participants learned the basics of architectural illustration while exploring the beauty and distinctive features of Najdi architecture under the guidance of professional illustrators.

Military Museum

Workshops held at the Military Museum introduced visitors to best practices in museum management and the preservation of archaeological collections. The sessions focused on proper techniques for handling, storing, and displaying artifacts according to professional museum standards.

The events attracted strong attendance from people of all ages and those interested in museums and heritage, reflecting the authority’s commitment to engaging the local community and visitors in celebrating the Kingdom’s cultural and historical legacy while encouraging participation in international heritage events.

At-Turaif Historical District remains a prominent cultural landmark and globally recognized historical destination. Known for its political and historical importance to the First Saudi State, the district offers visitors the experience of walking through a living museum that showcases aspects of daily and social life from that era, along with the distinctive character of traditional Najdi architecture.

Spanning approximately 235,000 square meters, the district includes 13 palaces and five mosques, including the renowned At-Turaif Mosque. It also features several historic public facilities, such as Bait Al-Mal, the former state treasury, Sbalat Modhi, one of the oldest endowments of the Saudi ruling family, and At-Turaif Guest Palace, which stands as a symbol of elegance and sophistication within the district.
