Saudi Arabia Enforces Vaccine Rule to Protect Hajj Workforce

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health has announced that all personnel participating in the 2026 Hajj season must receive the meningococcal vaccine before starting their duties. This mandate follows directives from the Supreme Hajj Committee to strengthen preventive measures and limit the spread of infectious diseases during the annual pilgrimage.

The Ministry spokesperson Abdulaziz Abdulbaqi confirmed that vaccination remains a strict prerequisite for obtaining a Hajj work permit. “The vaccine provides protection against serious infections that may spread in crowded environments,” Abdulbaqi explained. Furthermore, he noted that the vaccine “enhances the safety of both workers and pilgrims” and contributes to broader community protection after the season concludes.

Authorities urge all workers to receive their dose at least 10 days before commencing service to ensure optimal effectiveness. Since the approved vaccine remains valid for five years, individuals vaccinated within this timeframe do not require an additional dose.

Streamlining Health Access

The Ministry also encourages staff to update their seasonal influenza and COVID-19 booster shots. To facilitate this process, healthcare providers across military, security, and university sectors will administer vaccines directly at workplaces.

Workers should book their appointments through the “Sehhaty” app via the Adult Vaccination Clinic service. Abdulbaqi emphasized that early immunization strengthens overall health preparedness. Consequently, these measures create a safer environment for the millions of pilgrims visiting the Kingdom’s holy sites. By integrating these health protocols, Saudi Arabia continues to prioritize the well-being of every individual involved in the Hajj mission.
