Syria Announces Resumption of Flights from Doha and Jeddah

Syrian authorities announced on Thursday the resumption of flights to Damascus International Airport from Doha and Jeddah, set to begin on May 1, according to Arab News.

The resumption came after weeks of suspension amid heightened regional tensions linked to the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.

The Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport unveiled that Qatar Airways will resume daily flights between Doha and Damascus International Airport.

Meanwhile, Saudi carrier Flynas announced it will operate three flights from Jeddah to the Syrian capital on Friday next week.

Commenting on the announcement, Mustafa Khairallah, Head of the Authority’s Media Office, described the development as a remarkable step forward in fostering regional connectivity and boosting air transport links across the region.

He further noted that the resumption of flights is anticipated to bolster the recovery of air transport activity at Damascus International Airport, reflecting improving security conditions across the region.

War in Iran

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.

Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Syria reopened its airspace and resumed air traffic in early April following a US–Iran ceasefire agreement.
