Saudi Arabia Emphasizes Sustaining Maritime Operations, Protecting Energy, Supply Chains

Saudi Arabia has underscored the importance of maintaining maritime operations and safeguarding energy supplies and global supply chains. During the 50th session of the International Maritime Organization’s Facilitation Committee (FAL 50), the Kingdom highlighted the need to protect seafarers, especially amid rising threats to navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz and nearby waters.
The Kingdom reiterated its commitment to the provisions outlined in document FAL 50/J/6 and called for their adoption to enhance maritime safety and seafarer protection. It also backed the council’s extraordinary declaration (D.36/ES/C), which condemns attacks that violate international law and jeopardize maritime transport and global trade.

Saudi Arabia expressed concern over the broader security and economic consequences of these developments, particularly their impact on global supply chains. It reaffirmed its support for international resolutions focused on protecting seafarers and strengthening coordination among nations.
Given its strategic position, the Kingdom emphasized the importance of sustaining maritime operations by utilizing logistics corridors through its Red Sea ports and integrating them with other transport networks.

Through an initiative led by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), support has been extended to affected vessels, including the provision of fuel, supplies, and assistance with crew changes. Several ships operating in the Gulf region have already benefited from these services in recent days.
Additionally, the Transport General Authority (TGA) introduced a renewable 30-day waiver for certain certification and documentation requirements related to navigation licenses and work permits for both Saudi and foreign vessels in the Arabian Gulf. This measure aims to ensure smooth and safe maritime operations without compromising environmental standards.

Finally, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its ongoing cooperation with international partners to strengthen maritime security, protect seafarers, and ensure the uninterrupted movement of global trade.
