Aseer Welcomes Ramadan with Heritage, Community Spirit

The Aseer Region is preparing to welcome the holy month of Ramadan with a diverse lineup of social, sports, and cultural initiatives aimed at strengthening community bonds, encouraging volunteerism, and offering enriching experiences for both residents and visitors.

Historically, Ramadan preparations in Aseer have reflected deep-rooted values of solidarity and cooperation. Families traditionally come together to ready their homes, stock essential food supplies, and prepare mosques to welcome worshippers for Tarawih and late-night prayers. This enduring spirit of unity continues to shape the region’s Ramadan traditions.

This year, the Governor of Aseer Region, Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, launched the fourth edition of the “Ajawid” initiative. The program seeks to stimulate volunteer work and community-driven projects across the region’s governorates while enhancing social, cultural, and environmental development. It operates across six key tracks: tourism destinations, investment, community development, culture and heritage, environmental sustainability, and urban design.

Serving as a competitive platform for charitable and social projects during Ramadan, the initiative encourages youth and families to actively contribute to community service, reinforcing values of solidarity and collective responsibility.

Among the most anticipated events are Ramadan sports tournaments, which foster friendly competition and social engagement. In the days leading up to the holy month, Aseer’s traditional markets transform into lively gathering spaces, featuring local food products and classic Ramadan dishes. These markets also provide opportunities for home-based entrepreneurs and artisans to showcase their work, while creating welcoming environments for families and friends to connect.

This vibrant atmosphere reflects the region’s long-standing tradition of community gatherings in popular markets, where social ties are strengthened and food is shared. Cultural programming further enriches the season, with heritage evenings hosted in historic villages that highlight traditional crafts and folk storytelling.

Additionally, workshops and lectures explore the history and heritage of southern Saudi Arabia, alongside literary forums and discussions centered on the spiritual values of Ramadan. Together, these activities deepen the Ramadan experience and introduce both residents and visitors to Aseer’s rich cultural identity.

Through this harmonious blend of social, sporting, and cultural events, Aseer demonstrates its commitment to offering a meaningful and comprehensive Ramadan experience—one that honors its historical legacy while preserving the authentic traditions that have been passed down through generations.
