UN Chief Blasts Gaza ‘Endless Horrors’ as Israel Intensifies Assault

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Gaza‘s “endless catalogue of horrors” on Thursday as Israeli strikes killed at least 40 Palestinians, with Gaza civil defense reporting the death of six civilians while waiting for aid in the south. Guterres declared Gaza “piled with rubble, bodies, and potential war crimes,” demanding accountability immediately.

Meanwhile, Israel’s military prepares to expand operations into Gaza City, displacing more residents as AFP footage captured massive smoke clouds rising from bombardments on the city outskirts. Furthermore, the UN estimates nearly one million people now live in the northern Gaza governorate area. Consequently, Palestinians fled southward in vans overloaded with belongings today.

Famine Fears Intensify

The UN declared a famine last week specifically within Gaza governorate, blaming Israel’s “systematic obstruction” of aid deliveries. UN’s World Food Program head Cindy McCain warned Gaza is “at breaking point” after witnessing soaring desperation firsthand, urgently appealing to restart all 200 food distribution points immediately.

Israel severely restricted aid access for months, only easing rules late last month. However, a new US-Israeli backed foundation now distributes food, sidelining traditional UN agencies. Tragically, chaotic scenes persist with frequent reports of Palestinians shot while waiting for aid.

Political Tensions Escalate

Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated Israel should annex parts of Gaza once civilians leave and Hamas disarms. Hamas immediately condemned this as “an open endorsement of ethnic cleansing.” Additionally, the conflict’s devastating toll continues: Hamas’s October 2023 attack killed 1,219 Israelis per Israeli tallies. Israel’s subsequent offensive has killed at least 62,966 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to Hamas-run Gaza health ministry figures the UN considers reliable. International pressure mounts on Israel to halt its offensive within the famine-stricken territory
