Saudi Arabia has stressed the significance of the two-state solution as the only path to achieve permanent and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
The Kingdom and France are co-chairing the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, in a bid to advance peace in the Middle East and end the decades-long Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The Path to Peace
Speaking on behalf of the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, said that the adoption of the New York declaration and recognition of Palestinian Statehood “reflects the will of the international community’s to render justice to the Palestinian people.”
Moreover, he added that “Saudi Arabia is keen on continuing partnership with France and all countries calling for peace to follow up on the implementation of the outcomes of this conference to put an end to the war in Gaza and stop all unilateral measures that threaten Palestinian sovereignty.”
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia is ready to cooperate with other countries to “work on ending the conflict in the region, and establish an independent Palestinian State on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Prince Faisal said.
Palestinian Recognition
Concluding the speech, the Saudi Foreign Minister thanked all countries that have recognized or announced intention to recognize the State of Palestine.
He also called all other countries “to take a similar historic step that will have a great impact on supporting the implementation of the two-state solution, achieve permanent and comprehensive peace in the Middle East and find an new reality whereby the region can enjoy peace, stability and prosperity.”
Historic Moves
In a historic announcement, France formally recognized the State of Palestine at the conference, with more countries expected to follow suit, including Belgium, Luxembourg, San Marino, and Malta.
On Sunday, the UK, Canada, Portugal and Australia formally recognized the State of Palestine.
The wave of Palestinian recognition is the culmination of an intensive diplomatic push spearheaded by Saudi Arabia to revive the two-state solution and resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
