Tourism Exhibition in Shanghai Highlights Emotional Power of Saudi-Chinese Cultural Exchange

In a heartfelt moment during a Saudi tourism exhibition in Shanghai, a Chinese visitor donated a 15-year-old pin he had collected at the Saudi pavilion during Expo 2010, according to Arab News.

The visitor offered the pin as an “old memory” in exchange for one of the Saudi Land exhibit’s Pang Pang Panda destination pins.

This gesture resonated with staff and visitors, showcasing the deep aspects of the emotional power of cultural exchange.

“Discovering that the visitor had kept a Saudi pin for 15 years, and was willing to part with it as his ‘old memory,’ was both surprising and deeply meaningful,” Abdullah Al-Dakhil, spokesperson for the Saudi Tourism Authority, told Arab News.

Al-Dakhil also noted that this exchange was a chance for the Chinese visitor to express his long-standing connection to Saudi Arabia.

“In recognition of that gesture, he was gifted the full six-pin collection, allowing him to leave with a complete set and a new memory that will stay with him for years to come,” he added.

To embrace the concept: “Share an old memory and create a new one with Saudi,” the exhibition featured a dedicated pins wall that encouraged visitors to exchange personal items such as pins, keychains, or small keepsakes.

Therefore, each collectible has gained a new meaning, intertwining personal memories with a shared cultural experience.

“Saudi Land in Shanghai welcomed over 102,000 visitors and generated more than 32 million social interactions across China’s major platforms, clear proof of the market’s growing interest in Saudi Arabia,” Al-Dakhil added.

Interestingly, this year’s exhibition boasted a limited-edition series of six Pang Pang Panda pins, each launched on a different day.

The event produced only 1,000 of each design. So, the pins quickly became highly coveted by collectors.

To embody Pang Pang Panda’s complete Saudi adventure, the five destination pins interlock like a puzzle, with the series culminating in a special Saudi Arabia centerpiece pin.
