Sinner, Alcaraz Surge into Riyadh Season’s “Six Kings Slam” Semifinals

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz both advanced to the semifinals of the prestigious “Six Kings Slam” on Wednesday night. This exhibition tennis tournament takes place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as part of the “Riyadh Season,” drawing many of the biggest names in tennis.

Jannik Sinner’s Commanding Victory

In a thrilling matchup, Sinner faced off against former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev. Their encounter marked a rematch from this year’s Shanghai Masters. However, Sinner quickly established his authority in this match. He broke Medvedev’s serve early, dominating the first set with a 6-0 win.

Although Medvedev displayed resilience in the second set, Sinner maintained control throughout. He closed out the match with a 6-3 victory. This win means Sinner will next take on Novak Djokovic in a highly anticipated semifinal.

After the match, Sinner expressed enthusiasm for the tournament. “We are very happy to be here. Hopefully, we can promote tennis in this beautiful country,” he stated. Sinner also noted his familiarity with Djokovic, saying, “We just played in Shanghai a few days ago. It’s going to be a very interesting match, but our main goal is to show good tennis.”

Alcaraz Outplays Rune to Set Up Nadal Clash

In the second match of the night, Carlos Alcaraz faced Denmark’s Holger Rune in an intense battle. Both players held serve for the first eight games, showcasing their skills. However, Alcaraz managed to secure a critical break in the ninth game, winning the first set 6-4.

Alcaraz maintained his strong performance in the second set, breaking Rune’s serve early again. He controlled the pace of the match and ultimately won the set 6-2. This impressive victory sets up a highly anticipated semifinal clash against fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

Rafael Nadal recently announced his decision to retire after the Davis Cup finals in November. This announcement adds emotional weight to his upcoming match against Alcaraz.

Speaking about their clash, Alcaraz acknowledged the challenge of playing against the tennis legend. “Knowing that he’s going to retire from tennis is pretty tough for everyone, especially for me,” Alcaraz shared. He added, “I’ll try to enjoy sharing the court with him again, but it’s really difficult for everyone.”
