Saudi Students Secure Bronze at International Informatics Olympiad
Saudi Arabia has once again showcased its commitment to educational excellence with a stellar performance at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). Two brilliant students, Adeeb Al-Shehri and Ahmed Al-Hashem, secured bronze medals at the prestigious event held in Alexandria, Egypt.
Saudi Arabia’s Strong Representation
Four students represented the Kingdom, selected through a strategic partnership involving the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), the Ministry of Education, and Elm Company. The team included:
- Adeeb Salem Ali Al-Shehri from Eastern Province Education
- Ahmed Saleh Al-Hashem from Al-Ahsa Education
- Isa Al-Mousa from Al-Ahsa Education
- Saad Al-Busher Al-Arifi from Riyadh Education.
These students highlighted their talents on an international platform, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to educational excellence. Their participation reflects the Kingdom’s investment in nurturing young talent and promoting academic achievement.
A History of Success
Saudi Arabia has a strong track record in this Olympiad, boasting six international awards—four bronze medals and two certificates of appreciation—from previous competitions. This year’s participation, backed by Mawhiba and the Ministry of Education, continues this legacy.
Challenges and Achievements
Competing on an individual basis, the students tackled programming challenges, including algorithm design, data structures, and testing. The national team completed external training in three European countries after three years of intensive preparation in the Kingdom.
About the Olympiad
The International Olympiad in Informatics is an annual competition for high school students worldwide. First held in 1989, it is recognized by UNESCO and the International Federation for Information Processing. It is one of the five International Science Olympiads and the second-largest scientific competition after the International Mathematics Olympiad in terms of participating countries.
